A “Taste of Barcelona”

Posted by valentina  Published in Trails of a Traveler

A “taste of Barcelona” we experienced looking around La  Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Gaudi’s creation. Larisa was before in Barcelona and that is why she was our guide and excursion planner. What an interesting building is la Sagrada Barcelona9Familia! The real Gothic architecture! For a general introduction to the history of Barcelona one can travel through the Barcelona fishing quarter, up Colon Avenue, and past the Columbus monument. You entered the upper Example area where the Sagrada Familia {Holy Family) Cathedral is located. We took pictures of this marvelous structure, unique in both artistic and architectural form. This is the most famous Gaudi’s creation. The tour continues to Guell Park, just 15 minutes away. The park is a unique representation of Gaudi’s  imagination and work. Return to the city along the Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona’s widest avenue, with many modernist buildings designed by Gaudi and other important architects of the time. We stopped at la Pedrera, also known as Casa Mila. View from outside this masterpiece of Gaudi’s art. We ended our tour with a deep understanding of the special relationship between Gaudi, the architect, and the city.

Three of us flew to Barcelona in August 11, 2009 and we were waiting for Gleb’s mother to arrive from Saint Petersburg, Russia in hotel “Indepencia”. It was about evening time when the unpredicted things started to happen to us and I will call them “ Anecdotes”, i.e. funny stories.

ANECDOTE # 1.

We are waiting for one hour, then the other hour, then the third hour, and Larisa still did not arrive. Gleb kept asking “Where is my Mom?” We called to the Barcelona Airport, they said that the LUFTGANZA airplane is being late for 40 minutes. Gleb called through SKYPE to his mother’s mobile telephone, no answer. Some while later he called to Mom’s friend Kathy with one and the  same question “Where is my Mom?”. Kathy from Petersburg answered to us: “She is on her way to you, to the hotel”. It was half past midnight. Everybody was wound up.

Larisa showed up very calm and tired. Two hours’ delay of the flight was the reason.
