Local songwriter Sora was commissioned to write a song to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of Calgary Family Services, the organization founded by the McKillop family a century ago. Sora is a local singer and a mother of four young kids who gets a lot of her inspiration from ancient Greek and Сeltic myths, and sort of sings like one, too. A link to the song will be available soon at www.soramusic.ca.

Second. Peggy Baker, the dancer, choreographer and founder of Toronto’s Dancemakers and Peggy Baker Dance Projects, has been announced as the winner of the Walter Carsen Prize  for Excellence in the Performing Arts for 2010.

Baker, who was born in Edmonton in 1952, has received international recognition for her work as both a dancer and choreographer, and has performed both in and outside of Сanada with such artists as Lar Lubovitch, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Mark Morris.

Third. On September 25, 2010 in Calgary a great event took place, joyful for all Russian theater fans.Moscow artists Andrey Sokolov, Irine Alferova, Elena Medvedeva and Rudolph Sarkisov were participating at the show “Za Zakritoy Dveryu” (A play” Behind the Closed Door” by Jan-Paul Sartre was written in 40th of the 20th century and deals with subjects which concern all the people in the world: life and death, love and hatred, human relations.)

Fourth. At the Calgary University Theatre is Flamenco Night with the charismatic flamenco star El Torombo, joined onstage by four fellow Seville-based artists-guitarist Miguel Sotelo, singer Kiko de Alcala, saxophonist Oliver Miguel and dancer Fiona Malena.

Fifth. On Saturday at the Rozsa Centre, the Calgary contemporary classic virtuosos collectively known as Ensemble Resonance present Electrospectives, the best and most popular works in recent years.
