In our lives as in the seasons there are many changes and events which come to us sometimes expectantly, sometimes unexpectedly. There are times of joy, hope, frustrations and sadness. As with the seasons that surround us over which we do not have control there are moments in our lives that we too have no control over. That is passing away of love ones, friends, both near and far.
This event causes us to awaken to the fragility of this mortal existence as it is a temporary moment as life itself is. On the 25th of February 2009 our good friend Rudy Lutz and his family experienced the loss of a wonderful mother, grandmother and mother-in-law as well as a nice friend of ours. Her name was June Marina Lutz. We met her a few times; the last time was on January 2, 2008. As far as we remember we prepared a Swedish table full of appetizers, Russian pancakes and many other delicacies. It was a joyful Christmas-New Year season, wonderful music was played, and conversations flew freely and at ease. Under the Christmas tree the gifts were hidden. And you had to see a face of 73 year old lady lit up with a real happiness when she found out her treat. In a big box there was sitting a carousel of angels with the ringing bells, a magical sound that every child loves. So did June Marina.
We remember this moment of joy with June Marina. And we will never forget her.
Eternal memory! As in our Orthodox tradition a candle is lit before the icons in our home to ask the God to give her peace and quiet in her eternal journey to the Heavens. May the Angels guide her to everlasting rest.
