  • A Few Words About Contemporary Vogue or Happy 21st Birthday, Geb!

As always we gathered in our Muca Art Saloon to listen to the beautiful music: one of the participants of the competition of “Young Voices of Russia”- Rutger Gareht followed by the classical trumpeter from London Alison Balson.

But today I won’t talk about the music rather the clothing they were dressed up at their performances. It’s not a secret that the modern journalists describing the celebrities’ outfits put the labels to their dresses : how much it costs. No details of feelings what they appeal to but how much it is. All details, trend, colour and hue, design are in magazines and blogs of Internet or special edition.

In our fast changing world of digital, computerised, easy access to all kind of information-fast, fast, fast…The contemporary vogue is also changing, especially the attitude to it.

Street fashion, Ivanka Trump’s kind of, is not aimed at the individual. Everybody knows how to be dressed on the street, at school, at work, in the garden, in golf field or different other sport or recreation events.

But on the stage? Where it is very important the individuality of a performer and even his/ her instrument?

11 years old boy Rutger Gareht. Who is behind him? His Mom-a musician, arranger, choreographer, costume designer-like a jack of all trades.

Gleb, can you help this boy to be dressed maybe in more contemporary style: digital-contemporary: pants, for example, of your late design and top, for instance, as a sleeveless T-shirt with a print from the front and the back of one of his favourite digital shots to be changed very often. It is not bad by design and price, isn’t it?

Now about Alison Balsom. Her slender figure was wrapped up in a blue one piece pants suit with deep cleavage to show her sexuality and beauty. Blue colour was in harmony with her blonde hair bur in disharmony with her brass instrument. The style of her costume could be possibly changed for more digital-contemporary in purple-gold to show off better her trumpet.

    How about that, Gleb?

We congratulate you on your 21-st Birthday, wishing you good health, strength, keeping on your projects, and may success attend you in all your endeavours to come.

Good luck. On behalf of your family GRANNA

  • “The New Shostakovich” by Ian MacDonald with a New Foreword by Vladimir Ashkenazy, Pimilco, Great Britain, 2006

I am not a music critic and outstanding British writer as Ian MacDonald ( 1948-2003), that is why opinion can be superficial, as well as about the protagonist of his book Dmitry Dmitryevich Shostakovich (1906-1975), one of the greatest composers of XX century, author of 15 Symphonies, 6 Concertos, 3 Ballets and numerous Chamber music for movies and theatrical performances, a Russian composer, pianist and pedagogue.

As a listener and reader, I have to say the truth that Vladimir Ashkenazy in his foreword to this book stated “serious music is one of the most comprehensive tools for the perception of and comment upon human existence”. After “Testimony” (1979), this book intended to defend the image of Shostakovich as a great composer who lived and enjoyed in full his life under Stalin’s regime and later till his death. No need to go into details of a great talent, no need to stir the details of his personal life. But the artistic approach to the description of the culture is interesting. What we read on page 345 is “An important point is secreted here for whereas in the West the arts are too often kept apart, only rarely being allowed to shed light upon each other, no such artificial barriers apply in Russia.”

So, it is true. And the prime example of this is the Concert of Nikolay Baskov “Play” of 24.12. 2016.

  • Happy Easter 2018!

This year Easter time is fallen on the first week of April, the Catholic and Orthodox. Here are arrived Happy Easter cards to us, and again very funny and humorous.

    It’s all about Bunny !

How do the people celebrate it here? Some who are believers go to the Church. Some who are not? just rejoice the beautiful spring weather, some are hunting down for the Easter eggs or chocolate Bunnies. Some, just come to visit their grandparents, as in our case. John and Dianna arrived with their mothers to play with us, which is shown on the pictures here and there.

“Who are you?” game, for example, the author and and initiator of which is Janko. At first there was game “Piccaboo” followed by “Who are you?”.

“Who are you?” addressed Janko to John.

“I’m John.” The same question is to Dianna.

    Then hide-and-seek opens.

“Who is this?” asked grandma Valentina.

    “Two long ears,

    Four strong legs,

    Hop, hop, hop,

    Bring me eggs”

“Bunny! Bunny! Easter Bunny!” everybody answers.

    Then all sing along:

    “Easter Bunny, Easter Bunny,

    Hop, hop, hop,

    Easter Bunny, Easter Bunny,

    Please, don’t stop!”

But at the end of my post I would like to introduce a serious performance of a French girl with “Hallelujyah” of Leonard Cohen:
