Mucha’s most important work (1912-1926) “The SLAV EPIC” was the creation of 20 monumental canvases, focused on Slavic and Czech history, each canvas recording a landmark event of a thousand years of Slavic history, with subjects from the mythical past as well as an aspirational future.
The first in the series, The Slavs in their Original Homeland: between The Turanian Whip and the Sword of the Goths , 1912, was set in the third to sixth centuries. He shows a Slavic ‘ Adam and Eve’ survivors of a raid, hiding in the fields under darkness. The final work, The Apotheosis of the Slavs; Slavs for Humanity, 1926.
Alphonse Maria Mucha was born on July 24, 1860 in Ivancice, in southern Moravia in 30 km from city of Brno.
